    A cross-cut sail (x-cut) consists of a number of horizontal panels parallel to each other and perpendicular to the leech. This is a very cost-effective way of producing a sail, making it affordable and long-lasting. Being the first sail-design on the market, the x-cut sail has a long and proven track-record.
    Cross-cut sails are typically made from a woven polyester cloth with straight fill yarns that are stronger than the warp yarns. The strong fill yarns are aligned with the load bearing direction of the sail resulting in a very durable sail.
  • TRIOPT
    Trioptimal layout is also referred to as radial, since the panels are radial typically oriented towards the corners of the sail resulting in a triangular shape. This layout distributes the forces the sail is exposed to optimally and helps maintain the shape of the sail. The panels that make up the radial layout are carefully arranged to follow the load pattern, ensuring a strong and stable sail.
    Upwind sails in a trioptimal layout are typically made from a laminate cloth, that is a sandwich cloth constructed of more layers. However, you will find a few trioptimal designs in a woven polyester cloth, and most nylon downwind sails are designed in a trioptimal cut.

    The unique and patented EPEX membrane technology is the flagship of Elvstrøm Sails. A 100 % custom design where every single yarn is placed according to a load path design, computer calculated to the individual sailing preference. This enables the absolute optimal distribution of fibers over the entire sail resulting in an outstanding shape stability and performance.
    A broad range of materials and fibers are available to meet every need. The components are bonded under extreme and constant vacuum that evacuates all air, holds the membrane in place, and compresses the membrane components.

In-Boom Furling Main - Double Taffeta, Carbon/Technora

This in-boom furling mainsail made from the EPEX membrane, with optimum fiber distribution makes the sail shape extraordinary stable. The double taffeta layer protects the sail from chafe, wear and tear and additionally it protects the fibers from UV degrading. We will together with you find the best solution regarding type of fibers (e.g. vectran, technora, carbon), and surfaces. The horizontal full battens help keep the shape, and make sure the furling in to the boom runs without problems. The lowest battens are also working as reefing point as they stretch out the reefed down mainsail.

Material

Taffeta is available in light and heavy and in grey and white. The Carbon / Technora fiber combination is an optimal solution in terms of shape and performance.

    Conventional Main - short battens

    Sail Type
    The conventional mainsail with short battens still has full top batten. Having shorter battens in the lower parts of the sail makes the trimming and depowering easier. Short battens also make the sail weigh less and is normally the preferred choice for racing. Short battens also mean less chafe against the rig and spreaders when sailing downwind, so it should be considered if you plan to cross the oceans and sail downwind for long distances.

    The sail can be delivered with slides or luff rope, reefs and all other necessary options, for instance: trim stripes, sail numbers, cunningham, over-head leech line, loose foot and sail bag.

  • Conventional Main - full battens

    Conventional Main - full battens

    Sail Type
    The horizontal full battens in the conventional mainsail help keep the shape of the sail, and when lowering the sail, it practically packs itself into the lazy jack or zippack. As the sail is easy to use and stable, it is a favorite sail for many cruisers.

    The sail can be delivered with slides or luff rope, reefs and all other necessary options, for instance: trim stripes, sail numbers, cunningham, over-head leech line, loose foot and sail bag.

  • In-Mast Furling Main - no battens

    In-Mast Furling Main - no battens

    Sail Type
    This is the simplest in mast furling mainsail. Cost effective and solid are the most important features. It is possible to furl into all furling masts, also the ones with a narrow opening.

    Normal options to include are clew block, clew UV cover, reefing marks and sail bag. Sail number, trim stripes and other options are also available.

    When to use
    The in-mast furling mainsail with no battens can be used in all weather conditions – upwind and downwind. For heavy wind conditions the sail area can be reduced by furling in the sail partly.
  • In-Mast Furling Main - short battens

    In-Mast Furling Main - short battens

    Sail Type
    This in-mast furling mainsail with short battens can be built with a straight leech which gives a larger and more efficient sail than without the battens.

    Normally this sail will also fit into all masts, also the ones with narrow opening, as the battens are flat. It is a cost effective and solid sail. Normal options to include are clew block, clew UV cover, reefing marks and sail bag. Sail number, trim stripes and other options are also available.

    EMS Main

    Sail Type
    The EMS is an in-mast furling mainsail with full continuous vertical battens.

    The continuous vertical battens with carbon top provide support for the leech, whether the sail is fully deployed or reefed. The battens are also to be used as reefing points, stretching the reefed luff and making the sail flat and efficient.

    Normal options to include are clew block, clew UV cover, reefing marks and sail bag. Sail number, trim stripes and other options are also available.

    EMS Max Main

    Sail Type
    The EMS max sail is the cruising in mast furling mainsail that also win races. The sail area can be designed as a conventional mainsail, but with several extra features.

    The continuous vertical battens with carbon top provide optimal support for the leech, whether the sail is fully deployed or reefed. The short intermediate battens have the same function. The full battens are also to be used as reefing points, stretching the reefed luff and making the sail flat and efficient.

    Normal options to include are clew block, clew UV cover, reefing marks and sail bag. Sail number, trim stripes and other options are also available.

    EMS FatFurl Main

    Sail Type
    The FatFurl in mast furling mainsail, only available at Elvstrøm Sails, is specially designed with optimum shape and maximum sail area for all modern High-Performance Cruisers. The FatFurl is larger than a conventional horizontally battened mainsail.

    The continuous vertical battens with carbon top provide maximum support for the leech, whether the sail is fully deployed or reefed. The full battens are also to be used as reefing points, stretching the reefed luff and making the sail flat and efficient. The short intermediate battens have the same function.

    The EPEX layout ensures an optimum fiber distribution and a strong and stable sail.

    Normal options to include are clew block, clew UV cover, reefing marks and sail bag. Sail number, trimstripes and other options are also available.

  • Fat Head Main

    Fat Head Main

    Sail Type
    A fathead mainsail is designed with a square head, making the tuning easier. When the wind increases, the top of the sail will twist, and the result is a flatter sail. In light wind the extra area gives the boat more power.

    The square head mainsail is with full battens, which in addition to making the sail stable when sailing also makes the sail pack itself when lowering it in to your zippack.

    Normal options to include are reefs prepared for single line or hook, slides, loose foot, sail number, trim stripes, cunningham, smart solutions for easy control of the fat head while hoisting and packing, but other options are also available.
