Elvstrøm Sails UK Ltd: Team
|
Before joining Elvstrøm UK in 2011, Jerry has an established sailmaking career working with well known lofts, and his own company. He's a familiar face across a number of fleets and can frequently be found helping owners set up their sails, or going afloat for test sails and races. Following an Apprenticeship at Knight and Pink boat builders, Jerry joined North Sails and was quickly heading up to the Repairs department. He cut his teeth building America’s Cup sails, out of new fabrics, we now know as Mylar and Kevlar, often working through the night to rush them off to the USA or Australia. Whilts there, he built sails for Mike McIntyre and Chris Law for the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics. After a stint running the Racing Division for System Sails, he moved to Hamble to set up Williams & Lancaster Sails. In 1995, he set White Sails with his wife Kate. White Sails produced custom high quality sails, all hand built by Jerry. His original plan was to focus on high quality cruising sails but before long became involved in top end racing too. White Sails customers won J-105 National championships, various dinghy National Championships, including the extremely competitive Foxer fleet raced by many round the world veterans and World Champions, and IRC Offshore Champions to name a few. When Jerry joined Elvstrom he instantly felt at ease with the product. He says “Elvstrom Sails are built to the highest standards not the lowest price which fitted well with my White Sails ethos”. Although he has raced all his life, had great Fastnet and J.O.G results, class wins in Round The Island, 2nd in two National Championships, Jerry is first and foremost a creative Sail maker, which is his passion! “Give me a roll of cloth and a sewing Machine I will build you a great sail!” When he's not out on someone else's boat Jerry can frequently be found sailing or generally messing about in boats with his family on Chichester Harbour on the South Coast.
Ryan is a well known figure in Hamble and around the yards. He has worked for the company for over thirteen years, first with Sobstad, then Elvström Sobstad, and now Elvstrøm Sails UK. His knowledge of sails, how to make them, and how to fix them is based on these years of experience.
Craig is the youngest member of the Elvstrøm Sails UK team, having started when he was 17. He is now a highly competent sailmaker and is building his experience all the time. With Elvstrøm Sails UK doing more and more manufacturing every month, Craig is using the skills that he learnt to turn his hand to the manufacture and finishing of new sails.
Chris Brooks is a professional racing sailor and fully endorsed RYA Yachtmaster and cruising instructor and has sailed from an early age. He 2012 he completed a solo circumnavigation of Great Britain on an 18ft beach catamaran, has worked as a corporate racing skipper on a range of boats from small keelboats up to a 78’ Reichel Pugh. In addition to extensive offshore and keelboat racing, he has won his class in endurance events such as the Round Texel Race. He participated in the Artemis Keelboat Academy trials going right through the process to the final stages. Earlier in his career Chris managed the business development for Parnu Yachts UK and launched the x-treme 25. Chris joins the team as our new salesman, and brings bags of enthusiasm with him.
