In the final Chris and Team Ebler were up against Swiss Eric Monnin and in the best-of-five series, they had to fight their way through all five races before the gold was captured.
After three races Team Ebler were down 1-2 and they truly felt the pressure on their shoulders in order to stay alive in the competition. The next race was crucial to them and only a win would do, otherwise they would finish second. It was vitally important to get the correct position on the line but Monnin must have felt under pressure too, 'cause in the pre-start before the fourth race he missed a right of way-situation and cashed in a penalty. From that point Team Ebler took control and they never looked back.
In the final race Team Ebler again got a perfect start and they kept the leading position for the rest of the race, controlled Monnin and left him with no possibility of overtaking.
Asked what made the difference Chris Keene Pedersen is not too sure. - Even though the boats should be identical there might have been minor differences. It was the same boat that won all the races, he says.
Chris also points out that Monnin is a lighter crew than Team Ebler which gave Monnin an advantage in lighter wind, while Team Ebler were better sailing the more wind they had.
Team Ebler is now heading towards Lake Constance in Germany to compete in Match Race Germany first coming Wednesday.
